Hirumi Nanayakkara

Hirumi Nanayakkara is an MFA candidate in Design and Technology at Parsons the New School for Design. Hirumi is a design strategist & interaction designer currently focusing on using mobile technology, new media and interaction design to further affect social change in areas of sustainability, social justice and education. Hirumi’s work in locative media was featured at the 2010 PICNIC festival in Amsterdam, NE,  and won the 2011 Urban App Competition in NYC, NY.  She has worked in social media for the New York City Mayor’s Office of Adult Education and recently completed a design & technology internship at KARAJ, Lebanon’s first media lab located in Beirut. Prior to attending Parsons, Hirumi worked in Higher Education management for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and holds a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine.
